Hello World

For decades it has been a tradition in the programming and computer science space to start learning a new programming language or other development tool with a simple display of text like “Hello World” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/"Hello,_World!"_program). I have taken to using a similar mantra for the opening post of various social media outlets, blogs, or other platforms, so I will continue that here.

So, “Hello World”, I am Mark Helms, the founder of Legato Computer Information Systems and I am excited to share a little about my journey with you.

My roots in the use of computers in the business operations space goes back to my childhood. My father is a retired private practice CPA who developed a reputation for embracing technology to assist his customers in their bookkeeping and accounting needs. I grew up seeing and eventually assisting with Lotus 1-2-3, Excel, and eventually Quickbooks as tools used at a time where many accountants were still working off written ledgers.

While I will be quick to avoid defining myself as accountant, both for personal preference as well as a matter of that not being my professional history, I have always gravitated professionally towards either creating the business operational systems at various start-ups I have been part of, or assisting in the use or improvement of existing operational systems.

The intention with Legato CIS is to bring practical business operations experience alongside technical capability to allow businesses to focus more on what their business does instead of how it operates. Sometimes this is as simple as consulting through the processes and adapting existing tools and resources. Other times it does mean a full change of tools and processes, but throughout our intention is to allow the process to be as smooth as possible.

I look forward to sharing more about our processes, tools, and success stories as time goes on.
